FILKOE: „Save the dying animals rap.“

First of all, tell us how you started making music, how you met Bleubird and what you have released till your new album Lost Zoo Keys And The Animal Spirits That Haunt Them.

Well I met Bird in Orlando,FL while attending audio school. We saw each other at few shows but never really talked, untill we were introduced at wills pub by a mutual friend named Swamburger from Sol.iLLaquists of Sound. I was featured on my old friend Edgar who makes music under the moniker Push Button Objects, on a record called Ghettoblaster (released) on Chocolate Industries. After that I recorded music with Sign One from Lansing and Bleubird in a crew called the Jerk Circuit. We also had side projects with Swamburger called Clean Up crew and worked loosely with three hundred sixty degrees who now goes by the name Tweetch iz own. After leaving Orlando, I went back to my home town Cleveland, Ohio and recorded under the alias Dug Yuck. I made a record in my grandmothers basement called… The All Life Delusions Of An Insignificant Peon on my own label NoNotUnNon.

You´ve been making music for a while. Why did you take so long to come out with a solo album?

As an artist it is sometimes hard to deal with the business aspect of things, so I guess I needed help from outside sources. Also I wanted to come with a message, to have meaning behind what I was doing as rapper. So when I moved to Seattle and started opening myself up to the outdoors and the energy of the Pacific Northwest, I knew I had to move quick to alert people of the reprocusions of losing speicies forever removed from the collective conscious pool.

What inspired the concept of dead animals?

My uncle. He was a mink rancher. Also I have been doing hybrid animal collage for awile, and a close circle of amazing artist friends I swap ideas with.

Did you use an encyclopedia or just knew that there were animals like Sifaka or Ocelot?

The information came from a bunch of different sources. I was left my uncle´s book collection when he passed and took a lot of info from those also I collect hardback book from thrift stores. And I have a very valuble source in my close friend Fergus, some films, T.V specials, national geographic and zoo’s in differnet cities. I tried to pick animals that were interesting to me, who knows why I was drawn to the animals I chose. But for whatever reason they seemed unique to me.

What in your opinion is the best hip hop album-concept? And don´t say Prince Among Thieves (lughs).

(laughs) I wouldn’t. Let’s just say I’m a Kool Keith fan and I’m down with Quasimoto’s first one, Unseen.

You appeared on Ghetto Blaster by Push Button Objects. How did that come about?

Oh shit, I answered that already kinda. Basically I met Edgar at audio school. He heard me spit at an open mic, and approached me afterwards. We started chilling together and recorded the song in a cloud of herb smoke.

Is Jerk Curcuit a closed chapter? Or can we expect a comeback?

Maybe some more stuff with Bird and I rapping over Sign’s beats in the future. But Sign has a big family so he’s hella busy. But you never know maybe?

A few topics to discuss.

Global Warming. Is it a myth, or a sad fact?

I’m no scientist, but the weather seems out of whack to me.

Wearing fur. Why not?

You can wear fur if you have killed the animal by hand eaten it’s meet and your naitive to land the animal comes from. But if not, expect to have a bucket of red paint red thrown on your fashion/class statement from me.

Genetic engineering. Yes, or no?

I’m a naturalist so this is scary stuff to me, I say no. Just man up and die, when it’s your time to go except it and don’t try to cheat natural cycle of things. But I would except a blood transfusion from an ape.
